Becoming an Au Pair with InterExchange
We understand that the decision to become an au pair is an important one. Our team is dedicated to helping you have a fun and successful year in the USA. Here’s how our process works.
1. Learn More
InterExchange's representative in your home country will speak to you about the program, answer your questions and learn about your background and experience to see if you qualify for the program.
2. Apply to the Program
Our online application is an opportunity for you to tell us about your childcare experience, lifestyle, and reasons for wanting to become an au pair. Upload photos and provide required documents such references, medical check, background check, etc.
3. Interview with Host Families
Once accepted into the program, your profile will be available online to InterExchange host families. You will have an opportunity to view the family’s profile and meet them via video or phone. The interview is your chance to learn more about the family, ask questions and share information about yourself.
4. Make a Match
Both you and the family will decide if you’d like to make a match. Once you accept the family’s offer and decide on an arrival date, InterExchange will make plans for your arrival to the U.S.
5. Prepare for Your Departure
InterExchange will issue the paperwork you need to apply for your J-1 visa at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. We will also arrange for your flight, Accident and Sickness insurance, and attendance at our New York Orientation and Training program.Your local InterExchange representative will help you with everything you need to prepare for your departure.
6. Welcome to Orientation & Training in NYC
Your first stop in the U.S. is the InterExchange four-day Orientation and Training program held in New York City. Meet other au pairs and InterExchange staff as you learn helpful information to make your au pair program a success!
7. Meet Your Host Family
Get ready to have a great year! Once you've completed the Orientation & Training program in New York, you will meet your host family and InterExchange Local Coordinator. We are here to support you every step of the way.
