We’ll contact you for an informational interview.
School Teaching Assistant - Fall 2019 Dates
October 7 (4-10 weeks)
November 4 (4-5 weeks)
Early-bird deadline: April 1 (save $100)
Regular deadline: May 1
2. Match with a Family and School
During the host family matching process, you’ll be able to connect with families to make sure you’re happy with the match before confirming. This can take a few weeks, especially if you’ve applied well in advance.
If volunteering at a school, you’ll also receive your school placement and contact details.
3. Get Your Flight
After your placement is confirmed, you can book your flight. You’ll discuss the meeting point with your host family. Expect to arrive on a Saturday or Sunday.
Most placements are in Le Marche, a beautiful region about four hours northeast of Rome. You can arrive in Rome and take a bus or train to the region, or get a connecting flight to Marche Airport. Your host family will either pick you up at the airport or provide specific details on how to get to their area.
4. Review Resources from InterExchange
We’ll provide teaching and cultural resources, including sample lesson plans and activities to help you prepare!
5. Teach and Travel
If arriving on a Saturday or Sunday, your first day of tutoring or assistant teaching will likely be on the following Monday. You can discuss your schedule with your hosts prior to arrival, so you’ll know what to expect.
The Home Tutoring Program is only a 15-hour per week volunteer commitment, so you’ll have a ton of time to explore your neighborhood and take weekend trips!
If you're participating on the School Teaching Assistant option, you'll be at your school for 15 hours each week and tutor your host family for just 3-5 hours per week—still plenty of time to soak up Italy! Your hosts and our in-country partner can provide travel advice so you make the most of your time.
